The WordPress theme repository contains thousands of themes, and in this post I’ll show you how to install a WordPress theme. Its quick, it’s easy and it can be 100% free.
WordPress is a really great blogging platform, but can also be used as a fully featured website. One of the best things about WordPress is its themes. WordPress can easily be extended by uploading and installing a theme. This changes the appearance of your whole website to something more suited to your niche or requirements.
The WordPress theme repository has thousands of free themes that you can install. And thanks to the most recent WordPress updates, you can now install themes directly from within your WordPress website no need to download and upload ZIP files anymore!

Although the WordPress theme repository contains many free themes, you can also buy paid themes for WordPress. These themes are usually of higher quality, and comes with additional features such as premium plugins and special layouts.
Free themes are usually very basic. These are really great for beginners if you want to touch the blogging industry without having to spend money. There are quite a few free themes with premium features as well you just have to search a little bit to find these.
Now that I’ve told you a little bit about WordPress themes, let me show you how to install a WordPress theme. There’s generally two different ways to install a theme on WordPress, so Ill guide you through both of these processing in this post.
The first method is the easiest and allows you to install a theme without leaving your website. There’s also no need to upload any files to your server with this method.
The second method is just as easy, but involves downloading theme files and uploading them to your WordPress website.
Don’t worry if these methods sound hard, I will be guiding you through both processes and Ill include screenshots along the way.
This is the first method Ill guide you through. With this method, you’ll be installing a theme from within your WordPress website. This is also the easiest method out of the two methods Ill guide you through.
The first step is to log into your WordPress admin area. This is really easy simply go to your domain and add /wp-admin at the end. So let’s say your domain name is example.com and your WordPress installation is in the root folder, you’ll be able to log into your WordPress admin area by going to example.com/wp-admin

Next up you need to access the Add New Theme page. After logging into your admin area, simply go to Appearance > Themes as shown below.

The Themes page will show you all the current themes you have installed on your WordPress website. Here you can activate a new theme or customize your currently active theme.
You need to click on the Add New button at the top, next to the word Themes.
This will bring you to the Browse Themes page. On this page, you can browse through the different themes available for FREE on the WordPress themes repository. There’s thousands of great themes available that you can choose from to install a theme, simply hover over the themes thumbnail and click the Install button. If you want to see how your website will look with the theme activated before actually installing the theme, click the Preview button instead.
This step is completely optional, but a great help indeed!
The page inside your WordPress website that allows you to browse the different themes also allows you to filter the themes. This is extremely useful, especially if you have certain features in mind. You get different types of filtering options.
To access these filters, simply click the Feature Filter option in the top bar while browsing for a theme.
This will show you all the options there are to help you filter the results and find the perfect theme for your website.
Now use these filters to your advantage. Tick the boxes next to filters you want to apply to the theme browser, and hit Apply Filters once you are happy. This will give you a filtered list that only contains themes that matches your filter options.
The second option is also quite easy, but involves a bit more work from your side. With option 2, you need to download the actual theme files and upload them to your website. Dont worry Ill show you how you can upload a theme directly inside your WordPress website without having to fiddle with FTP or cPanel.
For this option, follow step 1 and step 2 from the previous option (1. Internal Theme Installation). Do not install a theme through the theme browser though follow the instructions below.
When you get to the Add Themes page, click on the Upload Theme option.
Next you’ll be presented with the built-in theme uploader. Click on Choose File, browse to the ZIP file you downloaded (The theme package) and double click on it. Now simply click on Install Now. The installer will upload the file, install the theme and then you can active the theme or preview it on your website.
As for finding zip packaged themes, you can browse the WordPress theme repository and download the themes manually, or you can buy a theme from a website such as ThemeForest these themes always come in ZIP packages since they are not part of the WordPress theme repository. List building with WordPress is really a walk in the park. And the best part is it doesn’t matter what type of WordPress website you are running. Blogs, corporate websites, portfolios, and news portals you can build a list with just about any type of WordPress website.
Let’s start off with the requirements. I’m going to tell you exactly what you need in order to turn your WordPress website into a list building machine. Don’t worry you only need a few things and some time. Remember earlier in this post I mentioned you don’t have to spend a penny to do this.
I also recommend using a theme with a sidebar, since it increases your conversion rate when you have a subscription form in your sidebar. This is only optional though you can integrate the subscription form wherever you want to.
So let’s get started let’s turn your WordPress site into a list building machine!
The first step is to install the FREE list building plugin. This plugin is called MailPoet, and can be installed directly from the admin dashboard of your WordPress website. Simply log in, go to Plugins > Add New and search for MailPoet.

Note: When searching for MailPoet, you will see an Install Now button. Click on this button, and then Activate once installed. The screenshot above shows the search results for MailPoet after the plugin has been installed on my system.
Once installed, click on MailPoet in the WordPress admin sidebar. The first time you visit a MailPoet page, you’ll be directed to a Welcome page. Simply browse through the page, subscribe to their newsletter if you want to, and click the Continue to MailPoet button at the bottom of the page to access MailPoet.
Now that you’ve installed MailPoet, it’s time to configure the plugin.
The first step, before even configuring the plugin itself, is to set up a subscriber list. You can, of course, have more than one lists on one installation. These lists will help you filter and categorize your subscribers if you are promoting different types of offers.
Next you need to click on Add List in the top bar.
This page allows you to add a new subscriber list. Simply enter a name for your new list, and optionally you can also add a description. Descriptions are never shown to your subscribers so these fields are useful for internal use.
Click on Add list once you’ve entered the details. This will create your new list for you.
Now we move on to configuring MailPoet. Go to MailPoet > Settings to reach the settings page for MailPoet.
You should complete as much details in the settings pages as possible. This will help optimize the plugin for you. Here’s a quick overview on some of the most important parts.
Your Company’s Address be sure to complete this. This enhances authenticity, and keeps you on the safe side of the law.
Email Notifications Here you can configure the plugin to send you an email update every time someone subscribes / unsubscribes.
Sender of notifications here you can configure the details of the email sent when someone subscribes / unsubscribes.
Subscribe in comments if you use the default WordPress comment system, you can enable this option to allow visitors to subscribe to your lists when they leave a comment.
Subscribe in registration form If you allow user registrations on your site, you can enable this option to give users the option to also subscribe to your list while they register.
Link to browser version Ads a link to email newsletters so subscribers can view the newsletter in their browser should they experience any problems viewing your email in their default email client.
Here you can add new subscription forms with different fields. Creating multiple forms to test out the performance of multiple fields is a great way to find the perfect form for your website. For example, you might have one form only collecting email addresses and another collecting first names as well.
Here you can configure whether a subscriber needs to confirm their email address or not. If you enable this feature, anyone who enters their email address in your subscription form will have to verify their email address first before being entered into your subscriber list.
Here you can configure how emails should be sent. You can use the built-in feature, or an external SMTP service. Using the built-in feature is free and pretty powerful if you’re only starting out.
Here you can configure some more advance settings for MailPoet. Settings like permissions and details of the emails being sent to your subscribers.
Here you can find a variety of add-ons that you can install with MailPoet to enhance your list building strategy.
The last step is to simply embed your subscription form on your website. This is usually best done in a sidebar, but if you do not have a sidebar, you can always add your subscription form to the footer of your website, or even at the end of your posts.
The easiest way to add a subscription form to your website is to go to Appearance > Widgets and drag the MailPoet subscription form widget into one of your sidebar choices. This is quick and easy and allows you to customize the title text of your form
This will add a subscription form to the sidebar or footer of your website. The form usually fits the CSS styles of your website.

An alternative option is to use a shortcode to integrate a subscription form on your website. The advantage here is that you can basically integrate a subscription form ANYWHERE on your website adding a form at the bottom of your posts is a very good idea.
To integrate a subscription form via a shortcode, simply go to MailPoet > Settings and click on the Forms tab.
Now hover over the form that you want to integrate, and click on Edit. Once you reach the Edit page, look at the bottom of the screen.
As you can see in the image above, there’s different options including HTML, PHP, iframe and shortcode options available. In this step, I’ll show you how to use the shortcode option. You can also use the other options if you choose to, but the shortcode option is easiest in this case since you’re integrating the form on your own site.
Click on the shortcode option and a new textbox pops up with the shortcode in. Copy this shortcode!
Now for the integration part you can use this shortcode in pages and posts. Wherever you paste this shortcode, a subscription form will appear. Handy hey!!
Tip: When using the shortcode integration method, be sure to add a catchy title since the shortcode will only add the subscription form and no title or other text.
So let’s see this in action. In the screenshot below, I opened one of my older posts and simply pasted my shortcode at the bottom of the post. I also added a heading that tells the user if they enter their email address, they will receive further updates.
Now when I update this post and visit it, the result is as below:

Were now moving on to the installation of this plugin. Ill also show you some screenshots that will give you an idea of how powerful Yoast SEO is when it comes to on page SEO. To install and setup this plugin on your WordPress powered website, simply follow the instructions below and you’ll be ready to start writing better content in a couple of minutes.
The first step is to install the Yoast SEO plugin on your WordPress website. It doesn’t matter what type of website you have you can definitely benefit from this plugin. Remember that Yoast SEO helps you optimize pages as well as posts, so you can optimize the on page SEO of any type of content you post on your WordPress website.
To install Yoast SEO, log in to the admin dashboard of your WordPress website. Next go to Plugins > Add New and search for Yoast SEO.
Once you’ve searched for Yoast SEO, click the Install Now button at the first result which reads Yoast SEO. After installing, you should click the Activate Plugin button to activate Yoast SEO on your website.
You’ve completed the first step. Great work! Now let’s move on to setting things up.
It’s time to set up Yoast SEO to ensure you take advantage of all the features the plugin offers. I will guide you through the different setting pages.
To access Yoast SEO settings, simply click on the new SEO option in your left-hand menu. This will take you to the main General Settings page. This will also expand the Yoast SEO menu for easy access.

The main General settings screen gives you an option to start an introduction tour, view the latest changes in Yoast SEO, and lets you restore the default settings. You can explore the plugin via the tour if you want to, and you can view the changes introduced with the latest update to the plugin. If you make any errors or mistakes while configuring the plugin, you can also restore the default settings.
Let’s get started with the configuration. Click on the Your Info tab to fill out some important information about your website. This brings you to the following page:
Yoast SEO > General Settings > Your Info
On this page, you should enter your websites name, as well as an alternative name for your website if you have any. You should also choose whether the website is operated by a person or a company and fill out the additional details after choosing an option. Remember to click on Save Changes after completing these fields.
Next click on Webmaster Tools to enter some verification codes to help with your websites SEO.

These verification codes help you easily identify your website at each of the services including Alexa, Bing, Google and Yandex. To retrieve your verification IDs, simply click on each link, complete the process and copy/paste the code in here.
You can leave both Security and OnPage.org settings as they are. Move on to the next section of Yoast SEOs settings Titles & Metas you can find this option in the left-hand sidebar menu.
Here you can set up different options involving the titles of your pages, and the meta tags generated by Yoast SEO. These settings are usually fine as they are once youve installed Yoast SEO, but feel free to take a look around. This will also give you an idea of how Yoast SEO will help you optimize page titles and meta tags.
Moving on to the Social option, you need to fill out your social account URLs, and configure settings for different social networks. Be sure to complete this as far as possible as it will greatly help you with your websites SEO and social presence.

Remember to visit the tabs for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+ specific settings as well. These are all vital to enhance the social share-ability of the content on your website.
You can skip the XML Sitemap section if you do not need the URL of your sitemap immediately. All the default settings are pretty much done-for-you, and will automatically generate your XML sitemap.
Next visit Advanced. The first page gives you an option to add breadcrumbs to your website this is a really great feature and also helps with on page SEO. There might be a possibility that your theme doesnt support breadcrumbs though in this case you can follow the instructions given to integrate breadcrumbs manually into your theme.
If you need more information about integrating breadcrumbs manually, visit http://yoa.st/breadcrumbs.
Click on the tab Permalinks. Here you can configure different elements regarding your websites permalinks (a.k.a your search engine friendly URLs). The only option I change here usually is the option to strip the /category from category URLs. This is quite useful.

You can basically skip the rest of the options as the default options Yoast SEO configures for you are usually great. You can connect your WordPress site to Google Search Console to automatically check for search errors and other Google related issues. To do this, simply go to the Search Console submenu and autenticate.
Youve successfully configured Yoast SEO to help you optimize your on page SEO better. Congratulations! You can now start to use Yoast SEO and write better content EVERYTIME!!
Let’s take the plugin for a quick text-drive. Go to Posts > Add New to start writing a new post. Then scroll down to see the new snippet widget added to the bottom of the New Post page.

If you look at the Content Analysis part, you can already see the amazing power of this plugin. It instantly tells you why the content in your post won’t rank and what you can do to improve the optimization of your content.
To start off, you should enter your focus keyword. This should be the very first thing you do before you even start to write the title of your post, add your focus keyword. Remember that SEO is all about optimizing your content, and using keyword to rank in search engines. So each of your posts or pages need to be keyword-optimized.
Once you’ve entered your focus keyword, the snippet will automatically start to update as you write your post.
Below you can see a screenshot of what the snippet looks like after I added a focus keyword and wrote a couple of words. I also entered a custom meta description.
As you can see here, the snippet tells me that I do not have enough words in the body of my post. It also tells me that no images appear on the page, and that the meta description is too short. Other tips such as outbound links, page title and subheading tags also appear. These are all vital tips that will help you improve the on page SEO of your content, and rank your content higher in search engines.
The red bullet points are the most important. Take care of them first. Then move on to the orange bullet points. Wherever you see a green bullet point, it means you did good!
If you look at the top of the snippet, you will see a small tab with the word Content, a bullet and your focus keyword. This is the overall quality of the content you are working on think of it as your on page SEO score. Always ensure the quality is GREEN before posting content!

Remember that the quality of your content is important, as well as the keyword-optimization rate of your content. Just be sure to always provide value and NEVER simply reply to a thread by adding Thanks, great thread or something similar. This will come across as spam and might even get your account banned remember you want to provide value so people will click on the link in your signature.
Tip: Some forums won’t allow you to add a signature to your account before you become an established member. In this case, simply be active within the forum for a couple of days until you reach the required permission level.

Another way to drive traffic is to create a fan page for your website. This works really well since you are able to create a community of people interested in what your website has to offer. To create a fan page, simply log in to Facebook and look on the left-hand sidebar. You’ll see a tab that reads Pages click on Create New Page. Now simply follow the steps to create your page I usually choose Brand and Website for my type of page.
Once you’ve created a fan page, start by adding an avatar / profile picture for your fan page. Next up add a cover photo that’s related to your niche. Your cover photo should be attractive. If you’re not sure how to create a cover photo, you can head over to Fiverr and pay someone $5 to design one for you. You should also create a Call to Action button simply click on the Create Call-to-Action button and choose the button that best suits your page.
Now you should post helpful content to your fan page, as well as updates every time you publish new content on your website. Also invite your Facebook friends to your fan page there’s an option to quickly invite your friends directly from your fan page.
After you’ve build up some content on your fan page (about 4 or 5 posts), search Facebook for groups related to your niche. Simply search your niche keyword in Facebooks search box, and choose Groups when you’re presented with the results. Start joining multiple groups related to your niche. You can also join Advertise for free and Advertise your page and Advertise your business groups. When joining a group, a request is sent to the admin of the group you’ll receive a notification once they approve your request to join the group. Keep adding content to your page (Update your page about 3 times a week) and wait until you are approved in a couple of niche-related groups.
Once you’re approved in a few groups, start sharing helpful content with the groups. Also reply to posts created by other members of the group. Always share thoughtful and helpful content that provides some kind of value to the group and its members. Once you become an established member, start sharing content from your Facebook fan page in these groups (Share directly from within your Facebook fan page). This way your links will have more authority when shared in the groups. Anyone who sees your share will be able to click on your Facebook fan pages name and access / like your fan page, and they will be able to visit your website driving free website traffic back to you.
Tip: When composing a new post to share on Facebook, be sure to include the URL you are promoting within the first few lines. After publishing your update, Facebook will cut the message short if its too long, with a more link at the end. You need to make sure the URL you want users to visit appears above this more link.

You can add some of the people in niche-related groups as your friends on Facebook this means they will see your updates if you post anything directly to your own timeline. You can also contact group admins and ask them if they could pin your post for a couple of days some admins will charge you for this, others will do it as a favor if the content you’re sharing provides value to the group. You can also exchange shares on different pages once you’ve built up a strong amount of followers simply contact admins of pages related to your niche and ask them if they would exchange a shoutout with you. This means that they will mention your page / website on their page, and you will do the same for them on your page.
Twitter is actually very straightforward. Head over to Twitters home page and register a new account for your website. Make sure you choose a username that’s closely related to your website (preferrably exactly your websites brand name). Next you should verify the email address you used to register the account simply head over to your inbox and click on the validation link. Do this before you fill out your profile!
Now go to your profile settings. You need a profile picture and a cover photo. If you’re not good with creating graphics, get someone on Fiverr to do it for you for only $5 each. Fill in a short bio and include a link back to your website. This way, users will be able to click on your websites link whenever they check out your profile.
Now you need to find the top trending hashtags, and find some way to create tweets that can be tagged with these hashtags. Some hashtags are very global, while others are very filtered / narrow. To make things more clear for you, I’m going to state a short example here. Let’s assume you have an online affiliate store selling music and movies. You visit Twitter and see that theres a popular trending hashtag #JustinBieber. You’ve got it simply head over to your website, add the latest Justin Bieber music with an affiliate link, and then post a link to this page, along with the trending hashtag #JustinBieber as a Tweet. Cakes, Desserts, Pasta Dishes, Chicken Dishes, etc. As another example, if you are targeting the gaming niche, you could create a different board for every console, or maybe even a different board for every gaming genre. You can thin pin content onto these boards and anyone following you will see them. Your pins will also show up in search results this is how people can discover your content, like them and even follow your account.
I suggest creating a separate Pinterest account for your website / blog. Name your Pinterest account after your website or blog, and include a link to your website in your bio. Then create a few boards and pin some of your content on them.
Now here is how you can start getting followers, repins and likes. After you’ve added some of your own content, search Pinterest for phrases related to your niche. Then like a couple of pins, repin a couple of pins and follow a couple of the accounts you see in the search results. You could even leave a comment on some of the pins. LinkedIn is the last social media network I’d like to share with you.
