To help newbie bloggers out, I’m sharing this list of 10 blogging tips for beginners. I’ve seen a lot of questions on the internet from new bloggers searching for ideas on how they can make their blog better, how they can drive more traffic to their blog and how they can make more money from their blog. To give some clarification on these questions, I’m sharing 10 tips that you can use as a newbie blogger to make your blog more successful.
The tips I’m sharing today have all been used by myself. I’ve been blogging for over 5 years now, with The Profit Blogger being my latest addition to my blogging empire. I am sharing tips that I use myself to build up my blogs and to make them more successful.
Blogging Tips For Beginners
When I started blogging it was a very difficult road. I had quite a lot of bumps on the road to success, and I made so many mistakes. Luckily I was able to recover from my bumps every time, and I was able to learn from my mistakes. In fact, the mistakes I’ve made with my blogging experience have given me so much knowledge that I used to improve my blogs over and over again.
Now that I have gained all of this experience, I would like to share 10 blogging tips for beginners with you. These tips are based on my past experience and will help you write more content, write better content, drive more traffic to your blog and it will help you make more money from your own blog.
Tip #1: Publish new content frequently
Content freshness is very important when it comes to ranking your blog in search engines. The more content you publish, the more search engines will crawl your website. This is an important part of making your blog successful, and the reason I included this as the very first tip in my list of blogging tips for beginners.
Try to create some time every day to work on your blog. This is especially important when you’re only starting out since you need to populate your blog with high quality content. The more posts you make, the faster your blog will grow. Even though I have some established blogs, I always make sure to work on all my blogs on a daily basis. Apart from helping with your search engine rankings, this also gives a fresh appearance to your blog visitors will be far more likely to read a post you published today than a post you published 3 years ago.
Tip #2: Keyword Optimize + On Page SEO
Your most valuable visitors will come from search engines. This is also called organic traffic. And to ensure your site gets ranked in search engines, you have to make sure you optimize all the content on your website.
Start by doing some keyword research. Choose a keyword with low competition and a reasonable amount of monthly searches. Long-tail keywords usually works best and will give you longer term search engine ranking benefits. Every post you make should be keyword-optimized this is very important if you want to get high rankings in search engines!
If you’re using WordPress to blog, then I recommend you install Yoast SEO. This is a free on-page SEO plugin that will rate every post or page you create on your website. This plugin will also tell you exactly how you can improve the SEO-score of your posts.
I recently wrote a short tutorial on how to optimize your on-page SEO with Yoast SEO. Feel free to take a look: Optimize Your on Page SEO with Yoast SEO

Make sure you use your keyword in your posts title (as close to the start as possible), as well as in your header tags and body. Include your focus keyword in the first and last paragraph, as well as in the body of your content. You should also have a heading with your keyword included, as well as one or two images with alt tags containing your keyword.
All of these elements will help you better optimize your content and get you better rankings in popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.
Tip #3: Build a mailing list from day 1
The third tip I would like to share as part of my blogging tips for beginners is to build a mailing list from the start. Many bloggers only add a subscription form to their blog once they receive a larger amount of daily visitors I say do it from the start. This way, you can capture new email addresses into your mailing list from the start, which means you’ll be able to start an email marketing campaign sooner.
Building a list is now an essential part of operating a blog. When you offer your readers valuable content that they can use, they will be eager to receive more content from you, and to read more on your blog. Adding a subscription form to your blog and then telling your visitors they can subscribe and you will send them regular updates is a great way to get these people on your mailing list. And once you have them on your mailing list, you can start promoting affiliate offers to them and make some extra cash.
Many internet marketers claim that they make the most money out of their list building projects. This is a true fact that has been proven.
Think of it this way. Someone visits your website and enjoys your content, but they do NOT click on an affiliate link you have in the post they are reading. They do, however, subscribe to your mailing list. Now you have their email address on your list, and can send them an email at any time. Let’s say you send out 2 emails every week, that makes it 8 emails every month. Every second email you send out contains an affiliate link. Now even though this person didn’t click on the affiliate link in the original post He/She read, they still subscribed to your list this means that they will receive 4 emails every month from you containing an affiliate link. Now imagine they click on every second affiliate link you send them this gives you 2 clicks per month from that one person.
You can use any mailing list service to build your list. Some top choices include Aweber and GetResponse.
If you prefer to use a free service, then I would definitely recommend following a tutorial I wrote a couple of weeks ago. The tutorial will take you through the steps to create a fully functional autoresponder and email marketing system inside your WordPress website. Tip #4: Create a social presence for your blog
On 4 November 2015, Venture Beat reported that Facebook officially passed 1.55 billion monthly active users, and a whopping 1.01 billion daily active users. Now this data is only for Facebook. Throw in Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn and Pinterest, and you get much, much higher combined numbers.
Statistics do not lie. And these statistics hold solid proof that getting on the social media train is now essential. It doesn’t matter what niche you’re targeting or what type of blog you’re running creating a social presence for your blog is a MUST!
Creating a social presence for your blog doesn’t have to take up much of your time. Start by writing a short bio that you can use on all sites, and then continue to preparing an avatar as well as a cover photo for your social media accounts. Once you have all these data ready, you can simply start registering accounts and creating pages on different social networks for your blog. Be sure to brand these pages and accounts according to the name of your blog.
Share content with your audience frequently, and do not forget to make use of the social groups and communities available on social networks. By simply becoming an active member and building up some authority for your brand, you will be able to get hundreds to thousands of social media group members to like your page, follow your account and even read your blog posts. The key is to share helpful content with these groups, introduce yourself and make a name for yourself within the group, and then simply share a link with a good call-to-action within the group.
You should at least create a social media presence for your blog on the following social media networks:
- Google Plus

Tip #5: Reach out to other bloggers in your niche
I know this is a list of blogging tips for beginners, but the truth is the sooner you start to reach out to other bloggers in your niche, the better. Reaching out to other bloggers can be a great help to build up more authority for your own blog, and to help you expand your reach.
Reaching out to niche-related bloggers usually involves writing a post that they will post on their blog, and in return they will give you a link back to your site. This is also known as guest blogging or writing guest posts. Many online courses and internet marketers will tell you that guest blogging doesn’t help anymore but that is very far from the truth.
Yes, guest blogging has become a bit saturated. That doesn’t mean that it’s completely useless!
Posting a guest post on a niche-related blog holds 2 amazing benefits. The post that you publish on the third-party blog will include a link back to your website in an author box. This will drive traffic back to your website, and create a high quality backlink to your website at the same time.
The secret key here is to find already established blogs with high PA and DA to post guest posts on. This will give you higher quality backlinks, which will help your blog rank higher in search engines.
Tip #6: Focus on quality over quantity when building backlinks
Were halfway through this list of blogging tips for beginners.
Every blogger knows that backlinks are the backbone of getting high rankings in search engines. This also causes a lot of newbie bloggers to try and create as many backlinks as they can in the shortest period of time. Thinking that this will help them rank higher in search engines, newbie bloggers usually take on free backlink builders online. Their high hopes are quickly torn to shreds when they find out that those backlinks did more damage than good to their blogs search engine rankings.
So what’s the right approach to take when building backlinks? The right way is to focus on backlink quality over backlink quantity.
This simply means that you should not focus on building ten thousand backlinks at once. Rather focus on building high quality backlinks at a slower pace. And if you do not have enough money to spend on expensive SEO agencies, you can still do this yourself. Simply do some research and you will find many ways to build high quality backlinks to your blog.
Tip #7: Engage your audience
One of the best ways to get people to love your blog is by engaging with your audience. The problem here is that many newbie bloggers overlook this very important element, and focus on building more content rather than getting their audience engaged with their existing content.
Now, I’m not saying you should stop writing posts and start having conversations with your visitors. I’m simply stating a fact that is often overlooked by newbie bloggers.
So how should you approach this? Simple! Continue writing blog posts, but write your posts in a conversational way as if you are talking to your audience. This will instantly get your audience more engaged, and much more likely to comment and share.
Also reply to comments made on your blog posts, and comment on blogs related to your niche. Do not spam these blogs, but rather share helpful comments and replies to the original topic. You are usually allowed a link back to your website in the comments.
You should also keep an eye out for comments, messages and posts on your social media accounts. Many people will rather send you a message on Facebook than visit your website to find your contact details. Reply to comments and messages as quickly as possible, and always be polite. Try to be as helpful as possible. This will create returning visitors for your blog, and they will be much more likely to engage with your content and share your posts on their social media walls.
Tip #8: Give your readers what they want
One of the biggest problems newbie bloggers face is the fact that people aren’t reading their content. They share their content on multiple platforms, and they do get clicks to their blog, but their bounce rate is extremely high. A High bounce rate means that the majority of your blog visitors are leaving your blog within a few seconds this also means that people aren’t reading your content.
To solve this problem, you need to give your readers what they want. Do thorough research on topics that’s trending in your niche, and use question/answer sites to your advantage. Collect popular questions and problems that arise in your niche, and then write about these topics.
You can also create a survey or poll and post it on your blog, as well as on social media. If you have a mailing list, invite your subscribers to complete the survey. A Well formatted survey can give you a lot of valuable data and statistics about your readers and what information they are looking for.
Another good idea is to have a suggest a topic button on your website. Ask your visitors what they want you to write about, and then write about it. Be sure to gather the email address of visitors when they suggest a topic so you can send them an update with a link to the article you wrote.
Tip #9: Become an authority in your niche
As a newbie blogger, you do not have any authority in your niche. This is because you’re only starting out with your first blog, and no one really knows about you, what you do, what you know or even about your blog yet. Well, this needs to change and the sooner the better.
As part of my blogging tips for beginners, I didn’t want to include this tip at first. I later decided to add this tip the reason is because the sooner you start to build up authority for yourself and your blog, the sooner you will become a more famous blogger. The more people see your name and your blogs name on the internet, the more they will know you and the more they will want to know about you.
Build authority in your niche >> Blogging tips for beginners
Building authority for yourself and for your blog in your niche takes a little time, but if you do it from the start you’ll be reaping a lot of rewards. Start by becoming active on social media, joining different communities related to your niche and also becoming a member of popular blogs in your niche. Don’t just register an account here, you need to become active. Post regularly with useful comments, replies to threads and even tips and hints. Make sure you use your name as it appears on your blog this will help you build authority.
Once you’ve built up some authority, it will be much easier to get involved with other bloggers in your niche. By being an active member with a lot of thanks and likes on your posts in different communities, you will have proof to offer to other bloggers in your niche. This will make them trust you more easily and will also increase the chances of them publishing a guest post for you on their own blogs providing a backlink and traffic to your site at the same time.
It’s also important to realize that building authority for yourself within your niche holds many more benefits than those I just mentioned. When you build up a name for yourself, people will start to recognize the name of your blog as well as your personal name or your personas name. People will also start to search for your name on search engines, which will then lead them to your blog (That said, this will only help if you actually focus on branding when doing SEO).
Tip #10: Do NOT give up!
The most important tip in my list of blogging tips for beginners. Tip #10 is NOT to give up. Not ever!
I personally know, and have heard about so many people that tried to make it online, but ended up quitting. The reasons defer from person to person, but in the end they all gave up because they didn’t see results fast enough. And that’s one big problem when it comes to making money online and building an online career for yourself. You HAVE to be patient. It takes time and effort to built things up, but once you’ve established yourself as an online money maker, things get easier as you move along.
The beginning is the hardest part, and that’s why I’m giving you this tip. Do NOT give up. Just because you’re not getting a thousand hits a day within your first month doesn’t mean you’re unsuccessful. Some blogs take up to six months to see real results. The secret is to keep things going even when it seems like there’s no more hope.
Recap and final words
